Childhood Friend
Jasdeep Singh
Deep is probably the most laid back girl I know, especially for an Indian girl! Jasdeep (aka. Deep or Deepu) and I have known each other since 1999, she was a blossoming teenager at 14 and I was just an awkward 12 year old kid. We met in the summer during our first year at Gurdwara camp in Renton. Initially, this “cool girl” who wore makeup, nice updated clothes and had a lot of friends intimidated me. But, to my pleasant surprise Deep was the sweetest and most welcoming person. Very shortly after our meeting and a Shabad (Hymn) or two later, we began spending a lot of time together during camp and on the weekends and quickly became close friends. Our lives together consisted of her teaching me how to “do” my makeup, being goofy together, making up random Indian dances in her garage and finding love in the little things in life; like when she got her car and drove straight to my house that day to pick me up for a joy ride. After many get-togethers, sleepovers, girl talks, failed makeup sessions and soaking up the sun in the Bahamas for my senior trip, we decided to “grow up” and go to college and then eventually professional school. Although school kept both of us busy, we always made time to see each other and celebrate life, let it be birthdays, holidays, accomplishments or just meeting up to get a delicious bowl of pho. When you meet Deep you can’t help but be in a better mood. She is loved by all and her laugh is so contagious that you will catch yourself laughing at nothing with her. In addition to Deep’s beauty and loving soul, she has the purest of hearts and always finds the best in people. Her intelligence and passion to “do the right thing” has led her to become a very successful Lawyer in Seattle. I have never met someone who has as many friends as she does and I am blessed that I get to have her as one of my best friends.
