Dental School Friend
Kim Rosenthal
Some say that it is possible to meet someone that you not only find an immediate connection with, but you feel like you have been friends with them your whole life. Well…it's true it can happen! And that's how I feel about Kim. When I first met Kim we were both eager 1st year dental students at our UWSOD Retreat before the official start of classes. We sat next to each other during our orientation and after a couple presentations and continuous murmuring back and forth we immediately became friends. Since bonding over those “how to survive dental school” slides, we became the closest of friends. We celebrated the ups and trudged through the downs of dental school together. No matter how strenuous, demanding, or time consuming school was, Kim was always there for me. We would do anything and everything to keep each other going through our long (very LONG) lectures, even if that included hours of pinteresting, watching funny cat videos, texting about nothing, whispering to each other (we all know that I did all the whispering since Kim literally can’t whisper) and scrolling through the funny memes from “whatshouldwecalldental”. To escape the confining halls of school, we made the most of our school breaks; we traveled to Whistler, Leavenworth, Priest Lake and even Cabo San Lucus, Mexico. After 4 years of celebrations, accomplishments, birthdays, holidays, passed exams, socials, and TGIF wine nights we graduated last June 2014; surviving some of the hardest years of our life and earning the much anticipated title in front of our names. Although she is across the country and multiple times zones away at Yale doing her Pediatric Dental Residency, we skype and update each other frequently. When you meet this blue-eyed beauty, whose laugh is so contagious, it won’t take you long to recognize her loving heart and caring soul. In addition to being humorous, graceful and intelligent, Kim is an amazing and loyal friend. I could not have survived dental school without my partner in crime so I know that I won’t be able to survive my wedding without her either!
